Oh My Goodness; they look Sooooo Delicious. I would always fix my sandwiches in pan on top of the stove or put on broiler pan and do in the oven. Now that I have myself an air fryer; I do use it quite a bit.

California Vegetable Sandwich

Sounds very tasty Julie! Not low calorie, but certainly a tasty treat we enjoy. Hi Julie: I had a George Foreman for years and finally gave it to my son and bought a panini grill. Sounds so good, Julie!

Add the tofu and cook until both sides are browned and crisp, about 4 minutes per side. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Spread the spicy peanut butter sauce over both cut sides of each roll.

Layer the tofu and the pickled veggies on the rolls. Gently press sandwiches together to set. OK, so this is perfect spicy sandwich deliciousness…maybe I will finally get the Southern husband to try tofu this way? Miracles CAN happen…. This is what I need, comfort food. Watching your photos on Instagram and enjoying very much! Yes to that peanut sauce.

I would want to dip everything in it. But this sounds like a good place to start. Insert embarrassed face emoji here. From the looks of it, this thang is right up my alley. Life IS too short for boring sandwiches though I admittedly do love a good cheese sandwich. This one looks so fresh and flavorful! Who is on the central cookbook steering committee?

Kord's book is a welcome relief from the tired language of standard-issue cookbooks. From the start, Upsetting upends tradition. Tyler and I would open a string of sandwich shops, all of them devoted to broccoli.

From there the book is a chatty sandwich diversion, and often very funny. Kord references Mitch Hedburg at one point, and his writing shares a dry tone similar to the late comedian's.

'A Super Upsetting Cookbook About Sandwiches' Is a Tasty Break From Tradition

Upsetting can ramble from time to time—but hey, if you're looking for no-nonsense, you're probably the person who'd be upset by Kord's book. Interjections from editor Francis Lam add a light-hearted and slightly absurd meta-through line, which would seem contrived if his comments didn't give the book much-needed grounding. Almost as if to say, there are grownups here, we promise.

Kord has a self-deprecating charm that matches his subject matter. The whatever-tastes-good vibe of his creations a meatloaf sandwich with pho mayonnaise and mint jelly, a chicken and black bean hummus sandwich with Fritos carries over into the tone of his writing. So Upsetting is a fun and funny read.
